The Cross of Christ

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
The Cross as the Center of Redemption
The Cross of Christ is not just a historical event—it’s the heart of the gospel. It reveals God’s justice, mercy, and love in one breathtaking moment.

1. The Cross Reveals God’s Love
Jesus chose the Cross willingly.
John 10:18 (NKJV) No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
It was the ultimate act of sacrificial love.
Romans 5:8 (NKJV) But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
2. The Cross Accomplishes Justification
Through Jesus’ death, believers are declared righteous.
Romans 3:24 (NKJV) being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
The penalty for sin was paid in full.
Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV) But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
3. The Cross Brings Reconciliation
It bridges the gap between God and humanity.
2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (NKJV) 18Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
We are no longer enemies, but children of God.
Romans 5:10 (NKJV) For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
4. The Cross Calls for Response
We are invited to take up our own cross.
Luke 9:23 (NKJV) Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
It demands surrender, humility, and faith.
• What does the Cross mean to you personally?
• How does Christ’s sacrifice shape the way you live?
• In what ways can you “take up your cross” daily?
When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
Its lyrics beautifully capture the awe and surrender the Cross invites.
