GIVING THANKS:
    *   Michelle Rajpolt continues to progress after receiving her new heart 2 weeks ago!  It has been 4 weeks since her ailing heart!    Her recent biopsy results showed no rejection (which is the best possible outcome!).  They pulled another chest tube yesterday and there are 2 more tubes to go!   They are preparing her for likely discharge later this week.  PT & OT, nutrition, and education regarding transplant follow up care will all happen this week.  Michelle is handling it all very well and the family continues to be grateful for all of our prayers.  Her Mom Sheryl said she has a long way to go, but God has brought them beautifully through thus far!
PRAYER REQUESTS:
    *    Our prayers go out to all affected by the storm that hit Connecticut last Sunday, especially to the families of those who perished and all who need to re-build.
    *    Ken & Pamela Pimpton have requested prayers for their daughter Kandice who is having tests done on her kidneys 9/4.  Praying for good results.
    *    Sadly Jacqueline Charles  passed away after having had a stroke.  Our prayers go out to all of the family at this difficult time.  Here are the funeral arrangements which will take place today on Friday August 23rd at Lacerenza funeral home, 8 Schuyler Ave, Stamford, CT.  The wake will be from 10 AM to 11AM followed by the funeral service from 11AM to 12PM.   A repass will follow at the Westchester church of Christ in White Plains, NY.
    *    Jennifer Jones asked us to continue to pray for Donna Murphy Blankenship since she had an aggressive form of melanoma removed.  Prayers that the doctors caught it in time.
    *    Leah & Ray’s co-worker Theresa had a bad fall off of a ladder.  She has a multitude of serious injuries (Cranium, pelvis, shoulder, etc) and her daughter is getting married in two weeks.
    *    Nancy asked for prayers for her close friend Lorraine whose  sister  Gayle  fell and broker her neck.  Prayers for her recovery.

There is a list on the back table at church with specific needs during this time and bins will be labeled as you enter church . We are so thankful for such a loving church family and look forward to spreading the love of Christ to the victims of the flood. Can we even imagine a world where everyone would read the scriptures and place the highest value on following JESUS CHRIST?
That which is happening all around us, all over the world, is frightening.   It’s hard not to become depressed at the images that we see on television and hear in the news.  Sadly our children are exposed to it all as well.
As Christians we must remain united, strong and faithful which is very hard to do in a world that is in opposition to what we believe.
Staying focused and disciplined will bring eternal rewards and glorify God.  By setting our minds on things above, we will reap blessings beyond compare!

Colossians 3:1-4 image
“If then you have been raised with Christ,

seek the things that are above where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

Set your minds on things that are above,

not on things that are on earth.

For you have died,

and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

When Christ who is your life appears,

then you will also appear with him in glory.

Since we have died, and our life is now hidden with Christ in God, we look forward to the time when we will appear with him in glory!

Life is wonderfully intertwined with Jesus Christ who reigns eternal!
Looking at life through the lens of Christ, allows us to define our identity not by the person we see in the mirror, but by the Savior we have been buried with.   Looking through the lens of Christ, also allows us to look at others the way JESUS wants us to see them…with LOVE!

We become like oaks whose roots sink deeply in heavenly soil.  The storms and winds that beat against our trunks, are merely shaping us for what is to come in God’s eternal kingdom.

The Apostle Paul in the book of Colossians paints a portrait of someone who is heavenly minded…

Colossians 3:12-14
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the LORD forgave you.  And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Colossians 3:15
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.  Let the word of Christ dwell in your richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.   And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the LORD JESUS, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Psalms 3:3
But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my Glory, the One who lifts my head.”

God is our protector and the lifter of our heads. He shields us from harm, brings us comfort, and raises us up from discouragement, restoring our dignity and hope.
Proverbs 4:25-27
Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.

Keep on keeping on with the spiritual disciplines which will keep us afloat in these tenuous times…and focus on the eternal!

Reading the Word of  God – Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Prayer  – Colossians 4:1   Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

Meditate on God’s Word
Joshua 1:8
Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth, meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.”

Psalm 1:1-2
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.  But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.  He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

Psalm 119:97
Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.

DWELL ON THE ETERNAL

Colossians 3:3-4 “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

1 Corinthians 15:54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that it is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.  “Where, O death, is your victory?  Where, O death, is your sting?

How else can we set our minds on things above???

 KEEP SINGING ABOUT JESUS!

IN CHRIST ALONE
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My comforter, my all in all
Here, in the love of Christ, I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
‘Til on that cross, as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin, on Him, was laid
Here, in the death of Christ, I live

There in the ground, His body lay
Light of the world, by darkness, slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave, He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD

Seek ye first the kingdom of God
And His righteousness;
And all these things shall be added unto you.
Hallelu, Hallelujah!

Ask, and it shall be given unto you;

Seek, and you shall find.
Knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

Hallelu, Hallelujah!
Man shall not live by bread alone,

But by every word
That proceeds out from the mouth of God.

Hallelu, Hallelujah!

May we direct our thoughts to higher grounds as we remember WHO WE ARE and WHOSE WE ARE!     Ephesians 2:10

May we remember to fix our eyes on YAHWEH who spoke the whole earth into existence!
John 1:1

May we let the word of GOD dwell in us richly!  Colossians 3:16

May we continue to  seek HIS WISDOM,  HIS POWER  and  HIS GLORY !

    2 Peter 3:18
“But grow in the grace and the knowledge of our LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.
To HIM be GLORY both NOW & FOREVER.
