Jesus shared the Parable of the Great Banquet in the book of Luke 14:16-23
“When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, ‘Blessed is the man who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.“
Jesus replied, “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’ Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’
Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’
The servant came back and reported this to his master. The the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’
“Sir, the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’
“Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full. I tell you not one of those men who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.”
Luke 22:16-18
“When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, ‘ I have eagerly desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you I will not eat it again, until it finds fulfillment in the Kingdom of God. After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the Kingdom of God comes.
“For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lords’ death until he comes.” 1 Corinthians 11:26
Matthew 26:29 & Mark 14:25 “I tell you I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s Kingdom. “
God allows us to share in this royal banquet.
He paid for the banquet with His All –
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”
The Cup of Blessing…
1 Corinthians 10:16 “Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks, a participation in the blood of Christ?” And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?“
vs. 18 “Consider the people of Israel: Do not those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar?“
My Body Given for You…
Luke 22:19 “And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them. saying “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
My Blood poured out for many…
Matthew 26:28 “This is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
Eating His Flesh, drinking His Blood…
John 6:53-57 “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.“
A New Covenant in My Blood…
1 Corinthians 11:26 “For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.“
We read about the Great Feast that will be on the Last Day…written by the prophet Isaiah.
Isaiah 25:6-8
“On this mountain the LORD Almighty will prepare
a feast of rich food for all peoples,
a banquet of aged wine
