f3e4e2e3-8b44-0c4f-001f-79cc792240a4@yahoo.com>”>According to Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, the garden was named Gethsemane, from the Greek word meaning “olive or oil press”, appropriately named to describe the pressing things that Jesus knew He was about to endure. It likely contained an oil press, a mechanical device of sorts used to crush olives and then extract their oil for cooking and other uses. It is thought to be situated at the base of the Mount of Olives beyond the Kidron Valley.
The word gethsemane is derived from two Hebrew words: gat, which means “a place for pressing oil (or wine) and shemanim, which means “oils”. During Jesus’ time, heavy stone slabs were lowered onto olives that had already been crushed in an olive crusher. Gradually, the slabs weight squeezed the olive oil out of the pulp, and the oil ran into a pit. There the oil was collected in clay jars.

Yet, on this night, Jesus entered the garden troubled, in sorrow and in deep distress before His crucifixion. The weight of the sins of the world pressed down upon him like a heavy slab of rock pressed down on the olives.
Luke 22:44 “And being in agony, His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground“
In the book of Matthew we see Jesus’ humanness and his spirit battling in conflict. Yet He followed through with His purpose and the plan of salvation…for all mankind with LOVE at the helm.
Matthew 26:36-46
“Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane,
and he said to them,
“Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him,
and he began to be sorrowful and troubled.
Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.
Stay here and keep watch with me.”
“Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed,
“My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.
“Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter.
“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.
The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
He went away a second time and prayed,
“My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it,
may your will be done.”
When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
Then he returned to the disciples and said to them,
“Are you still sleeping and resting?
Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.
Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”
“Before Jesus was sentenced to be crucified, Pilate had him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns, set it on His head, and clothed Him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” and they slapped him in the face.” John 19:1-3
Jesus’s suffering went beyond what our minds can even imagine. He was left alone, betrayed by his friends, mocked, whipped, beaten, tortured, and crucified. Yet he prayed…

Three of the four Gospels mention specifically that Jesus had a crown of thorns put on his head by the Roman soldiers after they beat him. Before Jesus was sentenced to be crucified, Pilate had him beaten and whipped.
He endured unthinkable unimaginable pain, and hanging on the cross for 6 grueling hours to His ultimate death.
d834e92f-378a-b3d8-64e1-02300787540e@yahoo.com>”>Mark 15:17 “They dressed Him up in purple, and after twisting a crown of thorns, they put it on Him.“
John 19:2 “And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head and put a purple robe on Him.”
The crown of thorns placed on Jesus’ head should have been placed on our heads, but Jesus took our place.
The nails which were hammered into his hands and feet, should have been hammered into our hands and feet. Romans 3:23
May we never forget JESUS’ last words to His Heavenly Father….

Truly, Jesus’ love is unlike any other love we will experience.
Life as we know it is hard and painful. We sometimes feel discouraged, forlorn, dejected, and feel hopeless. We have short fuses with each other. We are easily influenced by the news where it seems that everyone hates one another and that infiltrates to the way we interact with one another on a daily basis. We see disrespect in the school setting by youth who are not reared properly and who disrespect and defy their teachers. People are defying the laws set forth which are to protect us. Many of the songs today are vile, foul, angry and irreverent. There is no right or wrong any more by society’s standards.
Jesus felt heartbreak, fear and so much more, yet pushed aside His own desires, to fulfill that of His Father in Heaven. The twelve whom he mentored and loved dearly, all fell asleep when Jesus needed them the most!
Jesus loved HIS way, all the way to the cross, for us!
HIS Victory over sin gives us incredible HOPE!

We have a glorious inheritance awaiting us with a crown of righteousness!
2 Timothy 4:8
KEEP SINGING:
There is a beautiful Hymn written by Jennie Hussey about the Crucifixion in 1921 called “Lead me to Calvary”. In this hymn, the lyrics paint a picture of our KING who wore a crown of thorns so he could lead us all to CALVARY.
7969575c-e136-9894-b16a-a017711fb91c@yahoo.com>”>The lyrics are below:
- King of my life, I crown Thee now,
Thine shall the glory be;
Lest I forget Thy thorn-crowned brow,
Lead me to Calvary. -
- Refrain:
Lest I forget Gethsemane,
Lest I forget Thine agony;
Lest I forget Thy love for me,
Lead me to Calvary.
- Refrain:
- Show me the tomb where Thou wast laid,
Tenderly mourned and wept;
Angels in robes of light arrayed
Guarded Thee whilst Thou slept. - Let me like Mary, through the gloom,
Come with a gift to Thee;
Show to me now the empty tomb,
Lead me to Calvary. - May I be willing, Lord, to bear
Daily my cross for Thee;
Even Thy cup of grief to share,
Thou hast borne all for me.
The Lyrics to this song remind us to REMEMBER & NOT FORGET what has been done for us at the cross!

He gave us the precious gift of His One and Only Son John 3:16
No matter how bad things get for us here on this earth, may we never forget WHO PAID IT ALL!
Let us bear daily our crosses to bear and never forget He has borne it all, for ME!
Lest we forget Gethsemane.
Lest we forget His crown of thorns.
Lest we forget His agony.
Lest we forget HIS LOVE FOR ME.... LET’s LEAD SOMEONE TO CALVARY!
Tell someone about JESUS!
